As part of the GEZUMI peer support groups for Ukrainian women living in Germany, Hudara facilitated a special Jazz Evening in Halle (Saale) dedicated to cultural exchange, artistic expression, and community connection. Hosted by peer support group facilitator Olena Salii, the evening brought together participants of the support groups, local residents, and representatives from the mayor’s office and migration services, creating a welcoming space for dialogue and encounter.

Olena opened the event with a personal introduction to Ukrainian culture, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange as a bridge between people and communities. What followed was a rich and moving programme of art, music, and poetry by Ukrainian artists and community members. Among the highlights were paintings by renowned Ukrainian artist Maryna Shkarupa and the photo project “Code of the Ukrainian Woman” by Anna Libova and Nataliya Timoshevska, which shares the powerful stories of twelve Ukrainian women who fled to Germany after the outbreak of the war.

The evening was brought to life through music, with performances by classical musician Volodymyr Kalashnyk, saxophonist Viktor Kabeev, guitarist Maksymilian Sviripa, and singer Tetiana Bakumenko. Traditional Ukrainian songs filled the room, creating a warm and shared atmosphere that invited listening, reflection, and togetherness.

This intercultural evening of art and music fostered meaningful encounters between Ukrainians who fled the war and members of the hosting community. United by curiosity, openness, and mutual respect, the event celebrated Ukrainian culture while strengthening dialogue, connection, and a sense of belonging across communities.
