Current energy systems in displacement contexts are often insufficient, ineffective, and shaped by limited data and understanding. The lack of context-specific evidence and analysis on energy access hinders the development of appropriate and sustainable solutions.
Hudara addresses this gap by combining research with implementation to strengthen the evidence base and advance conceptual clarity in the field. Through collaboration with UNHCR, Hudara has contributed to mapping energy programmes, conducting case studies, and analysing existing interventions across multiple countries. This work has helped build analytical foundations for more inclusive and context-sensitive energy programming.
In partnership with UNHCR, Hudara assessed humanitarian contexts across Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya regarding humanitarian energy access. The resulting publications provide multi-dimensional insights into different approaches to energy access, examining their contributions to protection, health, affordability, self-reliance, and environmental sustainability. It also offers guidance for the transferability and replication of effective solutions.
